OB4 B-Phycoerythrin (BPE) is isolated from a specifically chosen species of red algae because it yields one of the most highly fluorescent molecules of the BPEs. It is fluorescent, with an extremely high absorbtivity, a high quantum efficiency, a large Stokes shift and excitation and emission bands at visible wavelengths. Without altering its spectral characteristics, it is a stable protein which can be easily linked to antibodies and other proteins by conventional protein cross-linking techniques.

Preparation Before Use
B-PE is stored in ammonium sulfate solution. Therefore, B-PE needs to be re-suspended until no visible precipitates. Firstly. it must be extensively dialyzed prior to use or column to remove any remaining ammonium sulfate. Use PBS or your conjugation buffer (1 ml of B-PE to 1 liter of buffer) to dialyze at least two changes of buffer.
